Wealthy and power-driven and rulers of their land. Here are the dynasties of yesteryear. Do you remember any of them?
Dynasty
The series followed the luxurious and troublesome lives of the Carringtons who lived in the heart of Denver, Colorado. Blake Carrington, played by the incredible John Forsythe, was a powerful oil tycoon whose family juggled drama in and out of the oil rigs. The Carringtons were often hit by huge scandals, and many rivals crossed their paths, but nothing and no one was a match for them. They always stood their ground and held their head up high.
Dallas
Dallas took us all the way to Texas and introduced us to the all-powerful Ewings. Bobby Ewing, played by Patrick Duffy, was the patriarch of the Ewing family and owner of Ewing Oil. He married Pam Barnes, whose family was the arch enemy of the Ewings. This set the premise for a never-ending feud between both dynasties. Love triangles, backstabbing, cliffhangers, and strange dreams had us glued to our seats and falling in love with the Ewings.
Falcon Crest
Falcon Crest was set in the winelands of California where the rivalry between the Giobertis and Channings was explored. The twist in the tale was that the feuding families were brother and sister, Angela Channing and Chase Gioberti. The feuds sometimes got intensely bitter, and the family were driven to extremes through the seasons. Both dynasties fought for the top spot, even if it meant playing dirty.
Yellowstone
No one owned their name and their legacy like the Duttons. Montana was their home, and raising cattle was their pride and joy. John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, was a man of honour, but troubles were never far away. The Duttons had their fair share of family woes in the Wild West. Everything from adultery to backstabbing to sibling rivalry. But there was no question that this beloved family left a mark on us all and their dynasty will be forever remembered. Head to the ranch again with1923, with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren taking the lead. 1923 airs on Thursdays at 21:00 on M-Net.
Landman
Move over cowboys, there’s a new tycoon in town ... and his name is Tommy Norris. Billy Bob Thornton certainly brings this complex character to life. Tommy is the landman of an oil rig in West Texas with a potty mouth, big guns, and big plans. He faces rivals as trouble brews amidst the oil rigs. Plus, he has a somewhat complex relationship with his ex-wife Angela, played by the lovely Ali Larter. And then ... there’s his two grown children, Cooper and Ainsley with troubles of their own, to which Tommy often comes to the rescue.
