We love our moms and we love movies, which gives us the perfect excuse to look at ten great movie moms for Mother’s Day on 8 May. That’s a lot of m’s, but bear with us. Our mothers do.
1. Bambi’s Mother, Bambi
A good mother goes to any lengths to keep her children safe; a point Bambi’s mother proves when she dies protecting her fawn from a hunter.
2. The Bride – Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2
This mother goes on a “roaring rampage of revenge” when she wakes up from a coma and believes her baby to be dead, courtesy of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.
3. Helen Parr/Elastigirl, The Incredibles
When’s she not looking after her children, running a home and saving her husband, she’s fighting crime. Needless to say, this mom knows how to multitask.
4. Leigh Anne Tuohy, The Blind Side
Sandra Bullock gives a tough yet tender turn in her Oscar-winning role about a Southern mom who adopts a homeless young man and gives him a family, as well as a love for football.
5. Meg Altman, Panic Room
Never mess with a mother. This is something that Altman (played to great effect by Jodie Foster) makes very clear to the intruders in her home, as she outsmarts their every maneuver.
6. Mrs. Gump, Forrest Gump
Forrest’s mom instills a confidence in him that allows him to overcome all obstacles and lead a truly remarkable life.
7. Mrs. Weasley, The Harry Potter Movies
Raising children is no mean feat: just ask Mrs. Weasley, who has six! As if that weren’t enough, she warmly welcomes orphaned wizarding wonder Harry Potter into her heart and home.
8. Peg Boggs, Edward Scissorhands
In addition to instilling good values in her own children, sweet saleslady Peg, much like Mrs. Weasley, welcomes an awkward outsider into her heart and home.
9. Rebecca Morgan, Sounder
The happiness of a hardworking family is blighted when its patriarch, Nathan Lee Morgan, is sent to prison for a petty crime. However, his wife Rebecca will not let grim circumstances, exacerbated by the Great Depression, tear her family apart.
10. Sarah Connor, The Terminator Franchise
Saving her son means saving the future, and Sarah will do whatever it takes to save both – and kick serious ass while doing it.
Happy Mothers’ Day to all mothers!
